Your Wild and Precious Life

by Michele Fawcett-Long, Career True North

Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?

We Never Know

Early this past week, I learned that someone close to me has a large tumor. I cried in the dark of night while we waited for the biopsy report. “We don’t have forever,” I told my husband when we were both supposed to be sleeping.

In the morning, I found out that the tumor is benign. I had another weep, this time of relief and gratitude and joy.

But I remember the message from the night, and it’s still true in the daylight. We don’t have forever. We all have gifts that came with us at birth. Each and every one of us. And our challenge is to show up to our days and offer them, as best we can.

And later in the week, Russia invaded Ukraine. I thought about what it would be like to live in Ukraine or to be a Ukrainian or Russian soldier following orders. About how life can turn so quickly into something neither expected nor requested.

Don't Wait

Don’t wait to start your life. Start with right now, this moment, the one that you are living. What do you hear? Feel? Smell? Taste? Touch? What do you value? Cherish? Know is true deep down?

And if you feel stuck in a job that doesn’t use your gifts or align with your values, is now the time to move?

If you want to find a career that allows you to show up as your true and authentic self, I can help. I coach with and support people on their way to a new career. I help people find clarity about how they want to live their wild and (truly) precious lives.

We don’t have forever.

  1. Great reminder Michele! I think particularly in the past two years with so much day-to-day sameness this is easy to forget.
